Saratoga Race Course

While I love photography and think it would be amazing to make a living photographing the earth and all that God put in/on it, I find that in order to pay the bills each month I need a regular job. I’ve been blessed to work for Linium LLC, one of the USA’s fastest growing private companies (as named by INC Magazine).

At the close of our annual employee conference in Albany, NY last month, Linium hosted a day at the historic Saratoga Race Course. The race course opened in August of 1893 and according to Wikipedia is  “the oldest organized sporting venue of any kind in the United States.” Being there, one feels outside of time. It is an experience just walking through the grounds.

I made this photo that day. I purposed to create a panorama of the course from our vantage point at the beginning of the first turn. I took about 40 images being sure to capture with my lens everything my eyes could see in about a 160 degree turn of my head. The resulting image isn’t quite perfect. I still have a bit of blending work to do at the seams/overlap of the 35 images I chose to combine into the final product. But, I believe it is as good as I’m going to make it for the moment and I wanted to post it here before the memories of that day fade to much.

The image is very large. At full 300 DPI it measures over 5 feet wide and more than a foot tall. The preview image in the body of this post is a mere fraction of that. Click on the image to see a larger sized version (still not full sized unless you have a huge monitor!). The image will take a bit to download, did I mention it’s really big? Your browser may try to downsize it to fit in the window.. it’s normal. For best viewing, use a wide screen monitor.

Legal stuff. Do not use this image for any purpose without my expressed written permission. I’m pretty easy going and will give you that permission if you ask! Just don’t steal from me and all will be well. To reach me, fill out this contact form
