Better than tattoo.

This is a great butterfly my princess created on her arm. She used Glitter Glam Body Design to do it. Thanks to a great neighbor for the fantastic birthday gift.

Clouds before the storm.

I snapped this image with my iPhone from the drive thru of a local coffee shop. It’s as it was taken, without filters or editing save a small crop.

Colorized Historic Photos.

I ran across this article from PetaPixel today. There’s a group of Photoshop guru’s that are colorizing historic black and white images and the results are astounding.

PetaPixel author, Michael Zhang, wrote the following article.

Colorizing Photoshoppers Put a New Spin on Old Historical Photos colorized

There’s an awesome little subreddit that has been getting a lot of press coverage as of late. It’s called ColorizedHistory, and is a 20,000+ person strong community of “Amateur Historians” who are interested in the idea of creating high quality colorized versions of historical black-and-white photographs.

Unlike many other subreddits, this community is quite exclusive when it comes to submitted content. It’s not open to new contributors, and only a select number of Photoshop gurus on an approved list of submitters are allowed to submit colorized works. The rest of the community follows, enjoys, and comments on these pieces.

The colorized photographs themselves are from different eras in history. Some were created using old tintypes from the mid-1800s. Others are more recent, showing B&W scenes captured just decades ago.

All of them are the result of hours of careful editing by professional and amateur Photoshoppers who have both an eye for color and a desire to see what historical images would look like today if color photography had existed in past ages.

Here’s a photograph of General Joseph Hooker, captured by photographer Mathew Brady in 1862:

…and a colorized version of that photograph by Mads Madsen, who can also be found on his website and on Facebook:

Crescent City, CA

This past weekend I did a crazy down and back Saturday/Sunday motorcycle ride from my home in Lacey, WA to Crescent City, CA. 921.0 miles on the trip odometer in two days. It was a long ride in the heat for sure.

However, it was worth it. I was able to visit with a great man, Ernie R. who allowed me to stay at his home and showed me around town. Here are some of the photos from the evening.

Photo Fun on Mother’s Day

On our way home from taking Mom out to lunch for Mother’s Day, we stopped at a graffiti wall to snap a few photos. It was a good time. I especially enjoyed seeing the kids having fun with their mother, my wife, Catherine.

Have you ever photographed a celebrity?

Several years ago, while I was in the NY/NJ area on business I took the opportunity to squeeze in a quick visit to Liberty Park before my flight home via the Newark airport. To my surprise, a film crew was there working with Uma Thurman, Luke Wilson, and a bunch of extras on a scene for the movie, “My Super Ex-Girlfriend“.

Just for fun today, I thought I’d post some photos I snapped of the action. I shot these images in November of 2005 and the film was released July of 2006.

ViewBug Image Award

I’m not much for submitting my photos to contests or to sites where I can’t control what happens with my images so I’m not really sure why I chose to post to ViewBug.com I think someone suggested it to me and in the moment I went for it.

I honestly don’t know much about ViewBug. I think they host your images under the idea of them being entered into contests. Anything uploaded can be offered for sale. I can’t really speak much to how sales work as I’ve never listed any of my images there to be sold. I just know you can.

All that said.. I received an email with an award from them today. Nope, I can’t spend it, yup, it seems to not mean much. Kinda cool to be recognized though.

$100 check from my Motorcycle Sponsorship

I’ve posted several times here about my motorcycle sponsorship through BikeSponsors.com and their “shout out” sponsor DecalKits.com

Recently they sent me a check for $100. I’ll be replacing the rear tire on my bike with the funds. Here’s a short video I made showing the check. Please watch and like the video as it’s distribution statistics will determine the level of my next item received from BikeSponsors.com and DecalKits.com
