Senior Moment

Thinking back to when I had senior portraits done I’m astounded my parents actually paid real money for what the photographer put me through. I was forced into a ruffly shirt and black dinner jacket that my response who knows how many other boys had worn that season. Forced to sit under blazing lights in a stuffy room with a generic backdrop. “Tilt your head, hold your hands this way” then BOOM, the shutter trips and the lights sear my retina’s for three days. All of that agony and the result was just another skinny kid in an oversize smelly coat and ruffled white shirt.

Please, please, don’t do that to your kids!

Doug and his mother Tina approached me to take his senior portrait after seeing my landscapes do well at the Sunrise Beach School charity auction. Knowing Doug is an accomplished High School Football Player I didn’t want to confine him to a studio so I suggested the use of natural lighting in an outdoor setting. The intent was to place him far enough away from the background of foliage that it would blur when I focused on him. I did use fill flash on this shot as we were shooting between rain showers on an intermittently overcast day. But it fit Doug’s style to not be forced into sitting under hot lights in a “costume”.

Daniel Slocum images outsell Thomas Kinkaide @ SBS Auction.

Thomas Kinkaide is a name recognized globally while Daniel Slocum is not. Thomas Kinkaide has sold millions of dollars in prints, Daniel Slocum has not. If this were a war Thomas would be winning hands down. However, in the small part of the world called Olympia Washington, on May 14th 2010 Daniel Slocum won a battle with Thomas Kincaide for fundraising dollars at the Sunrise Beach School annual auction.

A framed Thomas Kinkaide print sold at auction for $125. Decent price. Thank you to “The Gallery” for donating the print.
I had two images in the auction. “Shadow and Light” sold for $375 and “Comet Falls” sold for $150 (both images retail for $250). The bidding on “Shadow and Light” was so popular the auctioneer asked me if I’d allow a second be sold at the same price of $350 to the second place bidder. Of course I said “yes”. Thomas, tonight I win and am reveling in my victory.

Mother and Child

Next to Jesus’ death and resurrection I believe the most amazing gift known to man is the gift of life. I recently had the privilege of photographing a new mom and her 3-week old son. Her joy and devotion is self evident. His comfort and trust is undeniable.

May God bless you both with His provision, protection, and favor for the rest of your lives, amen.

Jared and Jackie

Engagement photos! They are so much fun. Jared and Jackie asked me to do theirs. We walked around the WA State Capitol campus last Saturday enjoying laughs and shooting images as we went. As a last stop we went to a fountain downtown where they did a quick wardrobe change and got wet.

What a great couple! I’ve included a handful of images from the shoot in a slide show linked below.

Jared and Jackie, thanks for asking me to do your Engagement Photos. May God bless you richly as you join to become one.

Liberty Park, NY photo use at Veterans Service Corps

Liberty Park is one of the most amazing pieces of real estate in New Jersey. From there you can see Manhattan, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. You can also board a Ferry to visit these National Treasures. As a retired U.S. Army Officer another fixture at the park caught my attention, the Korean War Memorial. There are also sites for other real estates properties, from companies as William Pitt Fairfield CT and many others.

Need to sell your house fast? We buy houses in and surrounding areas in as little as 7 days. Check out sell my house Spokane for more information.

I took this photo at moonrise with the light directly behind the memorial. The photo has been licensed by the Veterans Service Corps for use on their website.

Thank you for purchasing the usage rights to my photo but more so thank you for all you do for our veterans every day.

Enfant.com Photo Usage – A. Freeby

A few years ago I had the distinct pleasure of being asked to photograph the first born child to my friends the Freeby’s. This precious gift of God is now growing into a beautiful young girl full of life and personality.

Recently, Enfant.com purchased the right to use one of the photos from that session for use as a graphic element alongside an article on their website.

linternaute.com Photo Useage

The general practice in the stock photo world is for an agency to license photos to buyers on behalf of the photographer who receives royalties while rarely knowing who the buyers are. Such is the case with most of my images sold for stock usage. I haven’t a clue who my buyers are.

I’m not content with this. When I remember to do so I Google both Daniel W. Slocum and SlocumMedia to see what images turn up. Occasionally, I get lucky. This week I’ve hit the proverbial jackpot. I can go months without finding an image in use. This week I’ve found four. I posted the first usage yesterday, have this post today, and will post the remaining photos over the next couple of days.

linternaute.com licensed “shower controls” from Fotolia.com.

Here’s the link to the photo use. Below is a screen-shot should the link no longer be active.
