Nutracker 2012

Our kids have performed in a local production of The Nutcracker for the last 3 years. It’s been a great experience with a studio that puts on a very professional version of the ballet.

Here are a couple of shots of them from this year’s production.

Bling!

At Thanksgiving we find ourselves focusing on all the great things that are in our lives. Mom’s, Dad’s, kids, friends.. etc. I’m most certainly thankful for all of those. This year though, I’m thankful for my wife not kicking a fuss at me for buying a motorcycle and then.. even though I’ve suggested selling it, she’s told me to keep the bike as it is a source of rejuvenation for me. Thanks Catherine!

As followers of this blog you’ve noted a trend over the last few months toward less photography and family stuff to videos showing items I’ve received through my BikeSponsors.com sponsorship. I’ve been pretty busy at work, enrolled in night school and still have Dad and Husband responsibilities so photography has taken a back seat. I have carved out time however to progress in the sponsorship program.

This latest video highlights some front fender bling. Hope you enjoy it.

Back Off!! A cool module for my motorcycle

If you’ve been following this blog or my Facebook page for any length of time you already know that BikeSponsors.com and DecalKits.com have been sponsoring my 2007 Honda VTX1800T.

I’ve recently made another video thanking them for sending me a new Signal Dynamics Back Off Brake Light Signal Module.  This is a cool gizmo that flashes the light when you apply the brakes and then goes steady. It’s a real attention grabber and is a wonderful safety addition to my motorcycle.

The Pioneer Woman and a Dog on a Rug

Many of you are familiar with the Pioneer Woman. Ree Drummand has gone from a professional city life to blogging fame as a devoted wife and homeschooling mom on a farm in middle America. Her blog has several sections ranging from ranch life, cooking, homeschooling, and photography. That’s how I found her. A homeschooling friend and photographer buff pointed me to the Pioneer Woman blog for a tip on Photoshop Actions. The photography section at thepioneerwoman.com frequently offers tips, contests, and photo assignments where hundreds of thousands of people respond with their own photos and witty comments. Over the last couple of years I’ve casually followed the assignments submitting to just two of them. I’ve also taken the opportunity to enter into a few of her give-away’s which nearly always involve camera gear.

In response to an assignment entitled “Mobile Phone Photos”, I submitted a shot I took a few months back of our dog Jackson. He was sleeping on an area rug we have in our living room. The image was taken with my iPhone 4S and edited with Instagram. Much to my surprise, Ree chose it from among the 243,739 (current count as of this posting) images submitted for mention on her blog.

Here’s the image. Click this to view the blog post on thepioneerwoman.com.

Gumby Knows Best

I’ve been fussing with a stick air pressure gauge for some time now when checking my motorcycle tires for proper inflation. It’s a hassle to get the stick in just the right position to get a good reading and not bump the meter as you pull it out from between the disc brake and the wheel.

Enter BikeSponsors.com and DecalKits.com who have been sponsoring my Honda VTX 1800T. They sent me a Kuryakyn Flexible Hose Digital Air Pressure Gauge. I love this product. It gives crazy accurate readings and easily fits between the disc brake and the wheel to get at the tire’s valve stem.

Check out this video I made of the product and let me know what you think.

Saratoga Race Course

While I love photography and think it would be amazing to make a living photographing the earth and all that God put in/on it, I find that in order to pay the bills each month I need a regular job. I’ve been blessed to work for Linium LLC, one of the USA’s fastest growing private companies (as named by INC Magazine).

At the close of our annual employee conference in Albany, NY last month, Linium hosted a day at the historic Saratoga Race Course. The race course opened in August of 1893 and according to Wikipedia is  “the oldest organized sporting venue of any kind in the United States.” Being there, one feels outside of time. It is an experience just walking through the grounds.

I made this photo that day. I purposed to create a panorama of the course from our vantage point at the beginning of the first turn. I took about 40 images being sure to capture with my lens everything my eyes could see in about a 160 degree turn of my head. The resulting image isn’t quite perfect. I still have a bit of blending work to do at the seams/overlap of the 35 images I chose to combine into the final product. But, I believe it is as good as I’m going to make it for the moment and I wanted to post it here before the memories of that day fade to much.

The image is very large. At full 300 DPI it measures over 5 feet wide and more than a foot tall. The preview image in the body of this post is a mere fraction of that. Click on the image to see a larger sized version (still not full sized unless you have a huge monitor!). The image will take a bit to download, did I mention it’s really big? Your browser may try to downsize it to fit in the window.. it’s normal. For best viewing, use a wide screen monitor.

Legal stuff. Do not use this image for any purpose without my expressed written permission. I’m pretty easy going and will give you that permission if you ask! Just don’t steal from me and all will be well. To reach me, fill out this contact form

Bike Sponsorship Product Video

Hi again everyone. I’ve been remiss in uploading new photographs. Gonna have to get on that. I’ve kinda been focused elsewhere. We’ve had lots going on around the house with a new HVAC install and exchange students from China, Summer activities, etc..

One thing I have made time for is getting out and about on my Motorcycle. I’ve also been working with my sponsor BikeSponsors.com and featured sponsor DecalKits.com. Here’s a video of one of the products I’m getting through their sponsorship. Thanks for watching and clicking through to YouTube to “like” it as that helps me in my sponsorship.

Motorcycle Sponsorship

This blog is mostly about photography. However, I do ride my motorcycle to a lot of the places I shoot. Recently, I obtained sponsorship from BikeSponsors.com and DecalKits.com for my bike. This is an introductory video to the upgrades I’m going to have done with their assistance. Please take a moment to give it a looksee!

High Steel Bridge

On Memorial Day my family and I took a tour through the flags at a local cemetery in silence. We then set out for the High Steel Bridge just outside of Shelton on the Olympic Peninsula. Vincent Falls is visible from the bridge as is the crazy blue river it drops into. This image is of the view looking straight down over the West side of the bridge.  Click the image for a larger version.
